Sehr geehrter Herr Helnwein,
Sie glauben gar nicht, wieviel Freude Sie mir mit Ihren Bildern und Fotos gemacht haben, und ich erinnere mich auch noch sehr genau, wieviele ältere Herren in grauen und grünen Lodenmänteln in München um die Litfassäulen strichen, um verstohlen Ihr "Lulu"-Plakat zu betrachten.
Ich war lange Jahre in München Lektor des literarischen Hanser Verlages und lebe nun in Amsterdam, wo ich einen eigenen unabhängigen literarischen Verlag gegründet habe, die Uitgeverij Cossee. Wir veröffentlichen unter anderem in niederländischer Übersetzung die Bücher des Nobelpreisträgers J.M.Coetzee und von Autoren wie David Grossman, Michael Ignatieff, Bernhard Schlink und Achmat Dangor, aber auch viele niederländische und internationale Newcomer.
In diesem Frühjahr nun bringen wir einen jungen amerikanischen Autor heraus, der von einer höchst eigenwilligen "Himmelfahrt" erzählt: ein Mann fällt nach der Einnahme der falschen Tablettenkombination ins Koma, und das Buch erzählt nun, wie seine beiden vollkommen von der Bahn der Tugend abgekommenen Kinder versuchen, ihrem Vater wieder die Bedeutung der Wörter und überhaupt den Zusammenhang dieser ziemlich aus den Fugen geratenen Welt zu erklären. Der Autor, Matthew Sharpe, schildert das auf sehr beeindruckende Weise; das Buch wurde zuerst überall abgelehnt als zu "unkommerziell" und erscheint nun aber in mehreren Ländern.
Wir möchten zu gerne Ihr Gemälde "Himmelfahrt" von 1995 für den Umschlag der niederländischen Ausgabe verwenden, es ist wie dafür gemalt und trifft den Erzählgestus ganz wunderbar. Ich bitte herzlich um Ihre Zustimmung. Der niederländische Markt ist klein, und die VG Bild und Kunst empfiehlt als Standardvergütung bei einer Auflage zwischen 3000 und 5000 Exemplaren € 200. (Wir möchten eine Auflage von 3.500 Exemplaren drucken.) Ich hoffe, Sie können damit einverstanden sein.

Mr. Helnwein, you are a genius. I am only sixteen years old and despite many other creative influences form other artists, you have become a large inspiration within my mind, and have provided more and more creative ideas fo me as an artist.
