＊高等グラフィック教育実験学校に学ぶ。
＊ベネチアからウィーンまで断食不眠徒歩行。

＊友人たちの小さな集まりで、はじめてアクション（パフォーマンス）を起こす。自ら、顔や手を何ケ所も剃刀・彫刻刀・スキーのエッジで傷つける。
＊はじめての包帯拘束パフォーマンス。
1969
＊卒業試験に合格せず。公式の理由は、体育が不可だったから。
1969-1973
＊ウィーン美術アカデミー絵画科で学ぶ。
＊傷つき、虐待された子供たちを描く一連のハイパーレアリズムの絵画の連作を製作。
＊様々な形態のマイナー芸術に精力的に参画。漫画・広告・映画。そして、その経験を作品に反映させる（水彩：「不純な子供」、「拷問」、「いやしい子供」。最初の油彩画：「ママ、ここにいるの？ 総統、ありがとう！」）。
1970
＊マスタースクール賞を受賞。
＊包帯と外科医療道具をともなった、写真による最初の自画像。
＊子供たちと一緒のフォト・アクション。
＊本当にひどい絵を描く試み。水彩画：「特別」を描く。
＊ウィーンのナイト画廊のアトリウムで最初の個展。アクション：「アカデミーは燃える」。ふたりの同期の友人たちと美術アカデミーに対する反逆を行なう。このアクションの動機は教授会が学生の代表が入学試験の施行に参加することを拒否したことに起因する。教授会は軟禁され、物理的にも大きな被害を被った。ヘルンバインとその仲間は退学処分をうけた。科学芸術相はこの事件を政治的な行動として表明した。捜査が行なわれ公判が開かれた。 ...
